Johnny Appleseed Reader & Activities

Celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day (September 26) with an eight-page true-story reader about John Chapman, the pioneer who planted apple tree nurseries in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. Students learn vocabulary like orchard, nursery and pioneer, retell events in order, answer comprehension questions, sort facts from legends, and write about the tree they would plant. Use it for guided reading in 1st grade or as a read-aloud with oral responses in Kindergarten.
